Deciding which internet service provider is best for you can be a daunting task. There are so many terms, plans, and options to consider. Although most ISPs have similar offerings, there are a few differences you should be aware of. One critical aspect of finding the best internet service provider for your home or business is making sure that the plan you choose meets your needs in terms of speed and price. Here’s our list of top options.
Xfinity
Xfinity has six cable television and two internet plans, all with data capped at 1.2 terabytes (TB). Cable plans begin at $45, while internet plans start at $89.50 per month. Download speeds range from up to 50 megabits per second (Mbps) to 2,000 Mbps or 2 gigabits per second. If you choose Xfinity, you have the option of bundling your cable T.V., phone service, home security, and your cell phone plan.
Verizon Fios
Verizon’s Internet service, Fios, is the fastest in our ratings. It doesn’t require a contract and data usage is unlimited. There are three plans available, with the most basic plan priced at $39.99 per month and speeds ranging from 200 to 940 Mbps. Verizon’s Fios Internet comes with many bundled services such as home phone, T.V., and wireless.
AT&T Internet
AT&T delivers internet via fiber and other types of cabling. AT&T fiber plans include unlimited data, but coverage may be limited to urban areas. Its internet service may run up to 100 Mbps, but 10 Mbps is more common. With fiber plans, you don’t need a contract, but AT&T does offer television and telephone services that can be purchased alongside the internet option.
RCN
RCN provides five different Internet plans for customers to choose from, ranging from 50 to 940 Mbps download speeds. Plans start at $29.99 per month and escalate to $49.99 per month for its highest tier, but RCN provides a 30-day money-back guarantee when you choose their service and offers bundles that include home phone and cable T.V.
Cox
Cox has six plans offering download speeds ranging from 25 to 940 Mbps. The company’s website notes that prices can increase after the first year, depending on a customer’s Internet usage. A 1.25 TB data cap applies to all plans except the lowest tier, which is contract-free. Cox also offers bundles that include cable television and home security, in addition to internet service.
